Nurseries that grow both cut flowers and green pot plants? There aren’t very many of those at all. ICHTUS Flowers & Plants is one of these rare finds. And we want to know more about that! Co-owner Pieter Lips tells us the ins & outs of two-under-one-roof cultivation.
“Every day, we feel the urge to do something new.” Lode De Waele is not resting on his laurels. He represents the fourth generation of growers in his family. What began modestly in 1927 as a classic azalea nursery has today grown into a modern floriculture company with a sales market that extends deep into Europe. And they still have plenty of growth ahead of them.
POP!’ Nothing sounds more celebratory than uncorking a champagne bottle, and we’ve had the privilege of hearing that pop a couple of times in recent months. Firstly, Floréac was once again awarded the prestigious Trophée d’Or 2022 from JardinPlus – the third year in a row! Secondly, we have become a member of FSI 2025, which is a turning point in our history.
Since March 2022, Floréac has been a member of the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI). Together with other partners from the flower and plant sectors, we are committing to a sustainable supply chain in the years ahead.
What an honour! Floréac has been awarded the prestigious Trophée d’Or 2022 by JardinPlus for the third time in a row. And that can only mean one thing: we’re on the right track. And we intend to keep it that way. Our plan? To intensify our efforts in the areas of innovation and service and to collaborate even more intensively.
The Gerberas at van der Velden nursery aren’t just any old Gerberas. They have over 100 years of cultivation in their genes. And this is reflected in every aspect of the nursery.
The story behind their growth process?
You have slow food and slow coffee, and you also have growers who opt for a slow cultivation process. Horizon Plants is one of them. What do these slow trends have in common? Quality and craftsmanship, that’s what. The best genetic material as a start for extremely strong Kalanchoes and a wide range of houseplants.
We are proud to present the 20th edition of our magazine. And we still haven’t said all there is to say. On the contrary, in fact. We simply wouldn’t have enough ink and paper to reveal all our plans.
“Yes, it’s a time-consuming hobby,” laughs Sebastiaan van der Heijden, co-owner of Van Son & Koot nursery. With 36 hectares of Japanese maples and other garden plants, this might sound like an understatement. Yet among all these plants, people come first. A heart-warming story, as well as a first!
